Blackwater No. 5 Gin is a traditional London dry style featuring the heavy juniper flavors that are iconic to the Martini enthusiast and gin purists in general. For the No. 5, Blackwater, they reached back to an importing record from 1844 from White's of Warford. After investigating those exact but now "overlooked" spices the "spice islands," they selected two of which now form the basis for their signature flavor (alas, undisclosed and a secret of the recipe).
Blackwater Distillery was founded in 2015 by Peter Mulryan in the West Waterford area of Ireland, which they regard as premium growing grounds for grain and dedicate their spirits to that terroir. It is named for the Blackwater river, which is said to be famous for both salmon fishing and trade.
