Bombay Sapphire gin is the well-known gin in the blue-tinted bottle. First launched in 1987, it is the product of Madison Avenue design firms and herbal blends from England based upon the London Dry flavor profile. The gin itself is not blue but rather named "sapphire" for its striking blue bottle. The Bombay Sapphire East gin is a newer and even more modern take on gin in that it is a further departure from the London Dry juniper profile. It includes additional botanicals of lemongrass and pepper.
The Bombay Sapphire brand was originally produced by contract at G & J Greenall but opened their own distillery in September of 2014 dedicated to the production of Bombay Sapphire gin (replete with visitor's center) in Hampshire, England. The brand is owned by Bacardi.
