Bombay Sapphire gin is the well-known gin in the blue-tinted bottle. First launched in 1987, it is the product of Madison Avenue design firms and herbal blends from England based upon the London Dry flavor profile. The Star of Bombay expression was released as an extension of the flagship gin, adding botanicals of Bergamot orange and Ambrette seed while increasing the bottling proof to a cocktail-crowd pleasing 95 proof. The bottle announces itself as London dry gin but the botanical set reminds us of a more modern, citrus and floral profile outside of the classic ingredients, so we have dared to classify it in the "modern" category."
The Bombay Sapphire brand was originally produced by contract at G & J Greenall but opened their own distillery in September of 2014 dedicated to the production of Bombay Sapphire gin (replete with visitor's center) in Hampshire, England. The brand is owned by Bacardi.
