Havana Club was founded by Jose Arechabala in 1878 and the distillery was nationalized in the communist revolution of 1959 (and the family fled to Spain). Today, the brand is owned jointly by the Cuban government and Pernod-Ricard.
Havana Club Anejo Especial rum is a blend of golden rums aged at least 5 years. It is meant to strike a balance between the lightness of silver rums and the more robus flavors of darker, aged rums. They recommend serving in a Cuba Libre cocktail (rum and cola with a slice of lime).
