Powers Irish whiskey is named for James Powers, who founded his distillery in 1791. At times it has been the #1 selling brand in Ireland. It is now produced at Middleton Distillery and owned by Pernod-Ricard.
Powers 12yr John's Lane Release was first launched in 2015 as a traditional Irish pot still whiskey, usually signalling its made from a blend of both malted and unmalted barley in a batch distillation method. It was designed specifically to try and re-create the whiskey typical of the Powers line in the mid-20th century. It is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, a common practice in the scotch and Irish whiskey world.
