Rittenhouse rye whiskies are owned and managed as a brand by Heaven Hill Distilleries and comes in several different expressions; they claim it is "Produced in the tradition of the classic Pennsylvania or Monongahela rye whiskies"... that style of whiskey is generally known for high rye-grain proportions from 90% to a full 100%. (Compare with Maryland style rye whiskey, which tends to have lower proportions of rye and thus a softer flavor profile.) They consider it an homage to the classic American whiskey.
Rittenhouse Bottled-in-Bond 100 proof rye whiskey is one of their entry level expressions but nonetheless gained considerable publicity for winning the 2006 World Spirits San Francisco competition.
Named Top North American Whiskey in the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
