Angostura Bitters is one of the most famous bitters in the world, called for specifically by many cocktails including the classic Manhattan. The secret formula was first developed in 1824 by Johann Gottlieb Benjamin IJGB) Siegert for the army of Simon Bolivar in Venesuela. He was then the surgeon general and it was considered a medicinal. In addition to cocktails (and curative), it has a tradition of being used in a number of recipes ranging from appetizers to desserts.
