Writers Tears Irish Whiskey
€45,95
Writers Tears considers itself a "pot still whiskey," which is a traditional method of Irish distillation using both malted and unmalted barley. It is considered a blended whiskey in that it is "vatted" in a marriage of the two different styles of whiskey. This is a blend of 100% barley-based whiskey (albeit not a single malt because some of the whiskey is unmalted) but there is no grain whiskey (ie, corn grain) in the blend, which is the case for many blended Irish Whiskey on the market. The name is inspired by a Gaelic folk song about whiskey tears, which...

Shanahans Single Malt
€45,99
Old Scout Ten Bourbon is aged for at least 10 years in new American White Oak (as bourbon must be) and made from a grain bill of "high rye content"--75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley--though that rye doesn't approach the 30%+rye bill we've seen in other bourbons. Jameson Black Barrel 70cl
€65,00
Jameson Black Barrel is one of their "select reserve" whiskeys. The "black barrel" label appears to come from the aging in "flame charred" bourbon barrels and "toasted" sherry casks. They age a blend of pot still whiskey and grain whiskey, the latter they describe as "rare, sweet, and not found in any other Jameson whiskey." The bottle experienced a redesign in 2016 (dropping the "select reserve" label) but had no formula change. Founder John Jameson acquired the distillery in 1780... by 1805, Jameson had become the world's number one whiskey. While considered a blended whiskey (malt whiskey blended with corn...

Hot Irishman is a company formed by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh. The Walsh family claims an origin in Ireland stretching back to in 1174 with reference to Philip Branagh (the name anglicized later to Walsh) who was mentioned in a naval battle....
Glendalough Double Barrel 70cl
€37,00
Glendalough Double Barrel Irish whiskey is called "double barrel" because it is aged for 3.5 years first in American Oak ex-bourbon casks (very common in the whiskey world typically featuring notes of caramel and vanilla) and then 6 months Spanish sherry casks (common in the scotch whisky world typically featuring a light wine color and aroma). This makes it a younger styled whiskey that tends to signal a celebration of the grain. They call it a "single grain whiskey," though it features a blend of malted barley and corn (wouldn't that be "double grain" or "dual grain"?) and suggests a...

Connemara Peated Single Malt

It will remind consumers more of a scotch-like flavor with the smoky peatiness of the whiskey. The Connemara whiskies have their malt dried over a peat fire, yielding special aroma and flavor. Their whiskey is a "tribute to the region" where peat is still used as a fuel source.
