The rum was launched with the partnership of William Grant & Sons, who eventually bought the brand in 2008 after its surge in popularity, though Philadelphia-based Sailor Jerry Limited is quick to point out: "it’s still the same group of original people here in Philadelphia, just now we have the support to really spread...

Matusalem solera 7 70cl
€40,00
Matusalem & Company was founded in 1872 in Santiago, Cuba by the Spaniards Benjamin and Eduardo Camp. The name "Matusalem" comes from the phrase Esto es mas viejo que Matusalem, meaning "it's older than Methuselah." Methuselah is the Old Testament patriarch who is said to have lived for 969 years and in this way, "matusalem" is meant to evoke the aging process that these fine rums undergo. In 1956, under Castro's regime, the Alvarez family scattered away from Cuba and the brand became fractured and neglected until 1995 when a settlement resulted in control by Claudio Alvarez. The brand was re-launched...

Fair Rum 70cl
€49,00Bacardi Carta Fuego 70cl
€34,99
The Bacardi Gold rum does not carry an age statement... we presume that, like the silver, it is aged 1-2 years in oak and and given a light filtration and bottled (presumably at least some of the color is owed to the wood aging). Formerly known as the "gold rum" it experienced a name change in 2015 changing to "carta oro." Thankfully, for lovers of cave dwelling animals, the bat logo remains intact. Bacardi Rum was founded in 1862 in Santiago, Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. The brand became inextricably linked to Havana, the daiquiri, and the Cuba Libre (rum and...
Bacardi Carta Ora - 70cl
€33,00
Scapegrace Gin is produced out of New Zealand. The gin is the in the classic, London dry style featuring juniper, orange, lemon, coriander, nutmeg, cardamom, liquorice, angelica, cloves, orris, cinnamon, cassia, and tangerine. These are all classic ingredients though suggest a slightly citrus-forward profile. They are particularly proud of the water, which they regard as the most natural and pure on earth after resting in mountain aquifers. The name is a reference or synonym for "rogue" and a nod to the sordid history of gin-making through the 19th century. This is the "navy strength" or gold label expression, which is...

Banks 5 Island Rum 70cl
€65,00
Banks 5 Island rum is named first for explorer Sir Joseph Banks and secondly for the five islands that are the source of this blended rum: Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, Java, and—the fifth island—Barbados. (A notional sixth island might be New York where the company is located.) The rums are aged between 3 and 12 years before undergoing a filtration (hence the clear color) and bottling. Normally, we associate a country of origin for rums but given that this is a blend of several rums we have taken the same approach we do with blended scotches and listed the bottler, which...

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum 70cl
€37,99
Kraken Spiced Rum—or, as they would have it, "the beast in your belly"—claims to base its heritage on a large shipment of rum supposedly brought down by the mythical Kraken. The rum itself is black and meant to evoke images of the squid-like ink. The brand is owned by the Kraken Rumn Company but appears to be sourced by private label contract out of Angostura Distillers. The federal Tax and Trade Bureau is a little confusing with multiple filings in Indiana (Proximo Spirits) and Florida (Mango Bottlers), which makes us wonder if the flavoring and bottling is done in the...
